What a Smashing Party!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas Party on 13th December, it was a great evening of celebration, fun and camaraderie!
Huge thanks go to Celia, Claire and Kirsty for organising such a successful event! Thank you also to the venue, Marsham Court Hotel for delivering a very well organised evening.
Safeguarding Notice – Changing Rooms
To help us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all members, please be aware of the following safeguarding guidance.
4:00–6:00pm is Junior Coaching Time
During this period, a large number of children are on site for coaching sessions.
We kindly ask adult members to use:
- The stand-alone toilet, or
- The inclusive/disability toilet
This helps ensure that adults and junior players are not mixing in shared changing areas during junior sessions.
Why this matters:
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. These simple measures help:
- Protect junior members
- Provide reassurance to parents and players
- Create clear, appropriate boundaries within club facilities
Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting a safe, respectful, and welcoming club environment. If you have any safeguarding questions or concerns, please speak to a member of the coaching team or club committee.
Court Development Update
Further to prior updates, the Committee have had to move the Court Resurfacing work provisionally booked for April 2026 back to Late August/September 2026 due to gaps in funding. This is now formally booked and gives the Committee and Club more time to source and exhaust all funding options.
Previous updates advised funding was still being sought to complete this work and while we are closer to our target now, we still have a way to go. We will therefore continue our attention and efforts in fundraising for the remaining funds needed for this project.
If you have experience in fundraising, grant applications or know potential funding sources, or if you have project management expertise or useful information to share and are willing to help, please contact a committee member or email club@southbournetennisclub.co.uk.
Clubhouse Makeover
Redecoration is stepping up, thank you to all our members who helped us with adding your ideas to the suggestions book.
From baseline blues to championship whites, the Committee have decided following the favoured colours from the suggestions gathered and Dudley is completing the final touches to give the clubhouse a fresh new look we hope everyone will love!
Massive thank you to Dudley for your excellent work on this!

Club Champs Finals Day
Our STC Club Championships Finals Day will take place on Saturday 13th June 2026 (Sunday 14th June will be the reserve date in case on inclement weather).
We wanted to provide you the dates early to save in your diary for those wishing to participate this year. Competition will start after Easter so look out for more information on signing up in the coming months.
Newsletter Frequency
This STC Newsletter will move to quarterly for 2026. We will continue to provide updates and emails of what is going on throughout the year alongside these as normal.

Makaio’s fundraiser for Dorset Mind
A fundraiser organised by Makaio Brown with Aspire Life for Dorset Mind
In February 2027 a team from Aspire Life will take on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world. Over the next two years we will be completing monthly challenges, events, and community activities, hoping to raise £20,000 for Mind Dorset, a charity that sits close to our hearts.

The Committee have evaluated the Tuesday afternoon session attendance over recent months and have decided to discontinue it, as the attendance has not been sufficient to continue the session. Any feedback on this session can be provided in the feedback section of this newsletter.
Junior Coaching – Spaces Available
We have spaces available on junior group coaching courses this term. Sessions focus on technique and skill development.
Cost: £8.50 per session (paid upfront for the school term).

Sunday Pickleball
Please note the pickleball Sunday sessions have ended for the season with these resuming around Easter time. Members are encouraged to continue to utilise the Court and equipment to play Pickleball with other members in the meantime.
Singles Box Leagues – Now on the 40LOVE App
This year, our Singles Box Leagues will be run via the 40LOVE app.
Latest League start date: 19th January
Match format:
- Best of 2 sets
- If tied at 1–1, a 10-point match tiebreak will decide the winner
Leagues available:
- Men’s & Ladies Singles (Mixed leagues)
- Future league offer will incorporate a Doubles box league (any mix of pairs allowed)
How to register using 40LOVE:
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play
- Create an account
- Select Southbourne Tennis Club as your home club
- Go to the Leagues section and register

COURT SIDE NEWS & REMINDERS
Clubhouse Use
If you’re using the clubhouse, please help keep it looking its best by tidying up after yourself. Wipe down any surfaces, pop things back where they belong, and take any rubbish with you.
Remember, if you’re the last to leave, don’t forget to lock up to make sure everything is secure. You can lock the patio doors with the key on the string from inside the clubhouse and then ensure the indoor control panel shows the moon symbol to lock the front door as you leave.
In light of recent incidents of individuals (non-members) loitering on club grounds. Please ensure that when you are leaving the clubhouse you ensure all the doors are locked (using the key on the court 1-3 side door and selecting the half-moon symbol button on the courts 4-6 side door and checking the door to ensure it has locked correctly once closed).
Thanks for helping keep our club clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone!
Court Brushing
Courts 1-3 were recently re-sanded, therefore please ensure you use the brushes by Court 1 to brush the courts before and/or after you play, this will ensure the sand remains evenly distributed across the courts and helps protect the surface from uneven wear.
Use of Club Balls
When using the Courts outside of designated club session play, please ensure you are using your own tennis balls. Club balls should only be utilised for designated club sessions and club matches.
