About our clubhouse

The front door security code can be found in your welcome email. The main door to the clubhouse will be open during normal club hours. If for any reason you need access out of hours or when no-one else is a the club, please use the door code to gain entry. The door entry system will automatically lock the door behind you. You will still be able to exit the clubhouse using the door handle and the door will again lock behind you.

Our clubhouse entrance is wheelchair friendly with a column push plate to trigger the door opening and an accessible ramp up to the front door.

The clubhouse has changing rooms with shower and toilet facilities. There are also kitchen facilities for making drinks and cooking food. There is internet available (password on the wall), and we have a television showing various sporting channels for your enjoyment. Make yourself at home!

One feature of our club is the floodlight system which you can turn on and off from the clubhouse kitchen. Use of these lights are completely free of change to our members.

On more pleasant days, kick back and relax on our patio area, where you can enjoy watching some tennis across courts 1,2 and 3.

How to attend a club session that is appropriate for you?

The club runs several sessions throughout the week, some during daytime and some during evenings. Balls are provided for all sessions. If you have not done so already, you can talk to the head coach for advice on which sessions may be best for you.

Alternatively, simply check out our Play page.

During club sessions, we all need to ensure that everyone has equal access to the courts and equal court time. This is particularly true when there are players waiting to play, so it is important that players leave the court when their set has been played and return to the patio/clubhouse area to await their turn to play again. Priority must always be given to any member who is waiting to play, especially if they have not yet played at all in that session. In addition, when members are waiting to play, it is customary that all sets are limited to 7 games only.

How to join a Box League

Box leagues run regularly at the club and are managed by an application called ‘Scala’. To register your interest or join, download the Scala app and select Southbourne Tennis Club as your venue. The app provides details of when the next league will start. During the league, the app is used to record match results and communicate with other members.

How to book a Court

You can book a court using the Clubspark system or the 'Booker' app. Log in with your credentials and follow the instructions to book a court. If you cannot attend your booking, you must cancel to free up the court.

Courts are booked in 30-minute timeslots known as sessions. Currently, in one process, you can book a maximum of two sessions (i.e., one hour). You can book more 30-minute sessions if you require 1.5 hours of court time, but you will need to start another booking process to do so.

Current court booking limits:

  • You can book up to 14 days in advance.
  • You can book a maximum of two 30-minute sessions (i.e., one hour) in any one booking process.
  • You can make 7 bookings (of up to one hour each) in any 7-day period.

How to play in one of the teams

If you would like to be considered for one of our teams, email us at club@southbournetennisclub.co.uk marking the email for the attention of Dave Sanger (Head Coach) or Celia Barron (Match Secretary).

Bringing a visitor

We welcome visitors. A visitor fee of £4 is required, and they must follow our Code of Conduct. After 4 visits in a year, the visitor will be invited to join the club. To pay for a visitor, please put the £4 visitor fee into the box near the patio doors.

Introducing a Friend

If you introduce someone who becomes a member, you are entitled to either a free coaching session or shopping vouchers (some restrictions apply). To notify us of a new introduction, please email us at membership@southbournetennisclub.co.uk

LTA Advantage Play

We encourage all members to join LTA 'Advantage Play'. This is a free individual membership scheme within the LTA website for adults and juniors who play or have an interest in British tennis. People who sign up to the scheme receive individual benefits and become part of the LTA family. Benefits include entry into the club’s ballot for Wimbledon tickets; an LTA rating; the opportunity to access additional packages including other world class tennis tournaments, product discounts, and so on.

We are an inclusive club, and we ask all members to adhere to the following standards:

  • Equality for all – everyone should feel welcome and respected.
  • No bullying or discrimination of any kind will be tolerated.
  • Wear appropriate tennis attire and shoes on the court.
  • Follow the Peg Board system during club sessions.
  • Be tolerant, fair, and respectful to all members and visitors.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship on the court.
